Colonel Simon Wilsey has been Chief of Staff Army Futures since 2024. Prior to the Army Pilots’ Course, he commanded a Platoon with the 1st Bn Coldstream Guards on Operations. Completing the Army Pilots’ Course in 2003, he was as a Recce Flight Commander operating the Gazelle in the UK and Germany. Having converted onto AH64 Mk1, he deployed on multiple operational tours in Afghanistan, including as a Squadron Commander before becoming the first Land VHR AH64 Squadron. In 2020 he assumed Command of 3 Regiment Army Air Corps, the first AH64E Regiment and Warfighting High Readiness Aviation Battle Group, deploying to the US and Europe. Wilsey has served as in the MOD in both Capability and Operations and was the first Chief of Staff of the Army Air Corps. As SO1 Future Commitments in the JAC, he planned global operational deployments to Mali, the Baltics, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and UK alongside a multitude of national and international training exercises both in Land and Maritime domains and deployed on 2 Warfighter exercises in the US. After Regimental command he spent a year as SO1 Europe in the Land Operations Command, responsible for all Land activity in Europe including a deployment of SACEUR’s reserve force to Kosovo, running Ex STEADFAST DEFENDER the largest land deployment in a generation and led the expansion and maturation of the UK’s Forward Land Forces concept in Estonia.
