Brigadier General Luttenberger entered the Austrian Armed Forces in 1983 and was commissioned as an officer in 1984. He graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt with a Bachelor’s degree and subsequently qualified as a helicopter pilot in 1987 and as an instructor pilot in 1990. His advanced military education includes a Master’s degree from the National Defence Academy in Vienna, the Staff Officers Logistics Course of the French Army in Metz, a Master’s degree from the United States Air War College in Montgomery, studies at the NATO Defense College in Rome, and a top-level management course in business economics.
Throughout his career, Brigadier General Luttenberger has held numerous key command and staff appointments. These include National Contingent Commander with KFOR in Kosovo, Chief of the Planning Division of the Austrian International Peace Support Command, Head of Operations and Training of the Austrian Air Force, Commander of the 3rd Engineer Battalion, and Commander of the Air Support Brigade. He has also served in the Ministry of Defence in several senior capacities and has represented Austria in international military forums and exercises.
Promoted to Brigadier General in 2022, he currently serves as Commander of the Aviation Brigade of the Austrian Armed Forces. In this capacity, he is responsible for the planning, direction, and regulation of supporting air operations, and for providing strategic advice to senior military and political authorities. An experienced aviator with more than 4,000 flight hours, he is an examiner and instructor pilot on the AW169B and leads the implementation of Austria’s AW169MA helicopter system.
His personal interests include table tennis, motorsports, computer technology, and travel.
