Chair NATO Modelling and Simulation Group

Simon Skinner serves as the chair of the NATO Modelling and Simulation STC which is the authority for modelling and simulation standards for the Alliance. Elected as chair in May 2026 , he leads the multinational effort for M&S standardization, scientific and technology development activities, coordinating the efforts hundreds of scientists and engineers across 26 nations and NATO bodies. Simon graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering, is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He has worked in small and large companies in many different roles with specific experience of civil and armoured vehicle driver training using simulators. In 2014 he received a commendation from the UK MOD Chief Scientific Adviser for research in AFV simulator driver training. In addition to his role at NATO he is the product policy leader for the Thales Training and Simulation business which has 1600 staff spread across 5 countries.
