Roger Sloman

Chief Executive Officer Active Safety System Technologies Inc.

Roger is an innovative entrepreneur with 50 years’ experience of building high-technology advanced materials/engineering organisations from single-man start-ups to operations with a global reach. He introduced carbon fibre into F1 motor racing in 1975, and developed the Advanced Composites Group (ACG) into a worldwide business supplying the global aerospace and defence markets with advanced carbon fibre materials. After the sale of ACG in 2004 Roger consulted for Aigis Blast Protection in Derby during 2007-2008 and as a result of viewing the video of a mine blast test on a BRDM2 he saw the opportunity to develop a practical method of directly counteracting mine blast effects on vehicles by using rocket motors. After forming ABBS in 2011 the Vehicle Global Mitigation System (VGAM™) system was developed and fully proven in both the UK and the USA by 2018. The novel, powerful, rapid reaction Linear Rocket Motors (LRM™) which push down on the vehicle are the only practical way of achieving the desired result of preventing the vehicle being blown into the air when it strikes a large mine or IED. Originally targeted at manned armoured vehicles to protect the occupants from acceleration injuries, the focus has now switched to UGVs, especially those designed for CASEVAC and Pathfinder roles, where the ability of the vehicle to sustain multiple AT mine blasts and remain fully functional is critical to their utility.
