Major General Piotr Fajkowski

Inspector of Land Forces Polish Armed Forces

Major General Piotr Fajkowski assumed duties as the Inspector of the Land Forces, General Command of the Polish Armed Forces, on July 1, 2026. A career armor officer with more than three decades in uniform, he has led soldiers at every echelon of the force — from tank platoon to armored division — and completed four operational deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

MG Fajkowski was commissioned in 1995 upon graduation from the Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces in Wrocław. He began his service with the 1st Armored Brigade in Warsaw-Wesoła, where he held positions of increasing responsibility in a tank battalion, from platoon commander to battalion chief of staff.

From 2002 to 2004, he attended the Faculty of Management and Command at the National Defence University in Warsaw, earning a master's degree. He then returned to the 1st Armored Brigade as a tank battalion executive officer. In 2005 and 2007, MG Fajkowski deployed to Iraq with the fifth and ninth rotations of the Polish Military Contingent, serving as a G-7 specialist and later as HQ bn commander and base commandant.

In 2007, he was assigned as Chief of the Operations Section, 1st Mechanized Division, in Legionowo. From 2009 to 2012, MG Fajkowski commanded the 3rd Mechanized Battalion in Zamość. In 2010, he led Battle Group BRAVO in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, during the seventh rotation of the Polish Military Contingent operating within the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) — one of the most demanding periods of the Polish engagement in the Afghan campaign.

Following his return from Afghanistan, he served as Chief of the Operations Branch at Headquarters, 16th Mechanized Division, in Elbląg. From 2013 to 2014, he completed postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Management and Command, National Defence University.

Beginning in 2014, MG Fajkowski served at the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces, first as a senior specialist in the Training Directorate and subsequently as Chief of the Exercises Department. From 2016 to 2018, he was the Deputy Commander of the 1st Armored Brigade. In 2017, he returned to Afghanistan to command the sixth rotation of the Polish Military Contingent within the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission.

In 2018, he was appointed Chief of the Training Department, 16th Mechanized Division. In 2020, he completed postgraduate studies in defense policy at the War Studies University in Warsaw.

In 2023 he complieted Paris International Capstone Course for NATO key leaders at Paris Military Academy.

By decision of the Minister of National Defense of October 27, 2021, he assumed command of the 15th "Zawisza Czarny" Mechanized Brigade in Giżycko. On August 4, 2022, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, acting pursuant to Article 134(5) of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, promoted Colonel Fajkowski to the rank of Brigadier General.

By decision of the Minister of National Defense of September 29, 2023, he was appointed Commander of the 11th "Lubuska" Armored Cavalry Division — named in honor of King John III Sobieski — headquartered in Żagań. Symultaneously he was appointed to be the Commander of Combined Arms Trainig Command - CAT-C within European Unionu Military Assistance Mission – Ukrainne, responsible for trainig ukrainian troops in Poland.

On August 14, 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Major General. He commanded the division until his assignment as the Inspector of the Land Forces.
