Major General Lars Lervik

Major General Lars Sivert Lervik started his military career at the Cavalry Officers Candidate School in 1990 and served in the Armoured Battalion at Setermoen until he started at the Norwegian Military Academy in 1992. After graduation from the Military Academy in 1995, he served various positions in the Armoured Battalion at Setermoen, Telemark Battalion at Rena and Brigade North at Bardufoss. This includes battalion commander positions in the Armoured Battalion and Telemark Battalion, and command of Brigade North from 2018 to 2020. MG Lervik has served in staff and command positions during one deployment to Kosovo and three deployments to Afghanistan.

Between 2013 and 2018 Lervik served in the Department for Security Policy and Operations in the Norwegian Ministry of Defence in Oslo. This includes four years as the Assistant Secretary General in charge of national security policy, crisis management and readiness. On 25th June 2020 he assumed command over the Norwegian Army.

In addition to military education in Norway, MG Lervik has attended the Armor Captain Career Course in Fort Knox (USA), Advanced Command and Staff College in Shrivenham (The United Kingdom) and U.S. Army War College in Carlisle (USA). He has a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from Kings College in London from 2007 and a Master in Strategic Studies from US Army War College from 2017. In 2020 he was appointed as a fellow to the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences.

MG Lars S. Lervik was born in Øksendal, Norway in 1971. He is married to Monica and they have two sons. The Lervik family is living in Rena, Norway.
