Major General Darren Werner

Commanding General, Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command US Army

Maj. Gen. Darren L. Werner assumed the duties as the Commanding General, U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, Army Materiel Command on June 12, 2020.

The command employs thousands of people worldwide and oversees a $30 billion budget annually. In addition to the command staff at the headquarters located at the Detroit Arsenal, Maj. Gen. Werner oversees activities at the Integrated Logistics Support Center, four depots, two arsenals, the Army’s ground equipment supply chain, life cycle management, and sustainment efforts affecting active-duty Army units around the world.

His previous General Officer assignments include Commanding General, 13th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, Fort Hood, Texas, and Director, Strategic Logistics Integration (G-4/5/7), Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, United States Army, Washington, D.C.

Maj. Gen. Werner’s brigade command was as the Commander, 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, in Germany and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan. His battalion command was as the Commander, 4th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq.

Maj. Gen. Werner’s brigade command was as the Commander, 16th Sustainment Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, in Germany and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, Afghanistan. His battalion command was as the Commander, 4th Forward Support Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq.

Maj. Gen. Werner was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps at Central Michigan University in 1988 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 1989. He also holds a master’s degree in human resources from Webster University, Missouri, and a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies, U.S. Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

During his career he has served overseas in Germany, Jordan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Korea.

His decorations and badges include Legion of Merit (with four bronze oak leaf clusters), Bronze Star Medal (with one bronze oak leaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with one silver oak leaf cluster and one bronze oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (with one bronze oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (with one bronze oak leaf cluster), Parachutist Badge, and Army Staff Identification Badge.
