SRO Mechanised Infantry Programme & Director Boxer Strategic Pipeline British Army HQ

Martyn is the Senior Responsible Owner for the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP) Mechanised Infantry (Boxer) Programme and Director Boxer Strategic Pipeline leading a wider portfolio across capability programmes and future planning for the Boxer Armoured Fighting Vehicle. As a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Project Professional with a strong focus on delivery, business improvement and developing people he has had a broad career across Defence Acquisition and the Project Delivery profession over almost 30 years.

He previously led Army Headquarter’s programme management teams delivering ~£20Bn of equipment-based capability modernisation programmes across armoured and logistics vehicles, combat service support, military engineering, land fires, EOD and ISTAR, integrating capability delivery across all DLODs and future mission systems and was SRO for the Counter-Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear modernisation programme and Project Vulcan delivering synthetic training for future vehicle programmes.

Originally joining the Defence Engineering & Science Group, his DE&S delivery experience ranges across projects, programmes & portfolio management, policy and business transformation working extensively across small and large UK & international acquisition, support and development projects at all stages of the acquisition cycle, including Vehicles, Communications, A400M, Tornado, Radar and Electronic Warfare and small Land projects.

He spent 5 years in London working in Exports, the Chief Scientific Advisor’s Private Office and HM Treasury covering efficiency, asset sales, major change programmes, Defence policy and equipment advice. Returning to Defence Equipment & Support he led the Land Change Programme business transformation and future land equipment support models, the Programme Office supporting Protected Mobility and Manoeuvre Support vehicles, bringing £1Bn of ‘Urgent Operational Requirements into Core’ and was Team Leader for Defence General Munitions.

Over his career his wider experience includes the SERA European Defence Course, MOD and cross-government leadership & management programmes and the Major Projects Leadership Academy. He continues to support shared learning and developing through mentoring and professional communities now as an IPA Project Delivery Master Practitioner.

He has also enjoyed time out on various overseas expeditions in Belize, Namibia and Chile, running UK voluntary work projects and staff/youth development with Raleigh International. When time allows he will turn his hand to general DIY projects, gardening, outdoors and snowboarding or helping wider local activities including as a School Governor at the Corsham School Multi-Academy Trust, church and community support.
