Major General (Retired) Moises da Paixão Junior is a native of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, and was commissioned as a Field Artillery officer upon graduation from the Brazilian Army Military Academy in 1991. He began his career in the 31st Field Artillery Regiment (School), Rio de Janeiro-RJ, where he served as a Firing Section Commander and Fire Direction Officer. Later he served in the 26th Field Artillery Regiment in Guarapuava-PR as a Battery Commander. After his Captain's Career Course, he was assigned to the 32nd Field Artillery Regiment in Brasília-DF, where he also served as a Battery Commander. From 1992 to 2000, he was directly involved in the implementation of the L118 Light Gun in the Brazilian Army. He also commanded the "CAIENA" Ceremonial Horse Battery and served as Headquarters Battery Commander in the 5th Divisional Artillery. As an Artillery instructor, he served at Agulhas Negras Military Academy and the Brazilian Army Captains Career School. MG (Ret'd) Paixão commanded the 5th Self-Propelled Artillery Regiment in Curitiba-PR from January 2014 to January 2016, while also assigned to a working group responsible for the implementation of the M109A5+BR Howitzers' FMS Case. Then he served as Defense Attaché to the Republic of Mozambique from July 2017 to July 2019. Since 2019, he has been involved in the process of digitalization of Brazilian Army Field Artillery, including the implementation of "SISDAC-Genesis," a Brazilian Army command, control, and communications software system designed to plan, coordinate, and execute fire support. From July 2019 to February 2020, he served at the Army Doctrine Center as Lessons Learned Division Chief, and then as Planning Division Chief until March 2021. His Flag Officer assignments included serving as Commander of the 3rd Divisional Artillery in Cruz Alta-RS, leading self-propelled artillery modernization efforts involving the platforms M109A3, M109A5, M109A5+BR, and M992 Field Artillery Ammunition Support Vehicle. He subsequently commanded Brazilian Army Field Artillery in Formosa-GO and then was assigned as Deputy Chief of Staff, G-1, Brazilian Army General Staff in Brasília-DF. MG (Ret'd) Paixão concluded his distinguished active-duty career in the Brazilian Army in 2024. From August 2025 to April 2026, he served as ASTROS Program Manager. Since May 2026, he has served as Field Artillery Program Manager within the Brazilian Army strategic portfolio, coordinating 21 projects involving tube artillery, fire support systems, ammunition, simulation, and doctrine. His international experience includes service with the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP). MG (Ret'd) Paixão holds postgraduate qualifications in International Relations, Strategic Information Management, Policy and Strategy, and Staff Studies, as well as a Master's Degree and a Bachelor's Degree in Military Sciences. He is married to Sonia and has four children.
