Brigadier General Williams was commissioned through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in 1998 and has built a distinguished career as a field artillery officer, operational leader, and strategic advisor across the United States Army and Joint Force. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of North Georgia, a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Military Art and Science in Military Operational Art and Science from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Infantry Captains Career Course, the Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies, the Joint and Combined Warfighting School, and a Senior Service College Fellowship at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Over the course of more than two decades, Brigadier General Williams has served in a wide range of command and staff positions at every echelon. He assumed duties as Commandant of the U.S. Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill in June 2025, following consecutive assignments as the Deputy Commanding General for Operations and Support in the 82nd Airborne Division. Prior to those roles, he served in Europe and Africa as Executive Officer to the Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe-Africa and Allied Land Command (NATO), and as Executive Officer to the Commander of U.S. Africa Command.
His earlier assignments reflect a career deeply rooted in operational excellence and joint service. Williams served as Chief of Staff and later as Division Artillery Commander for the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), and previously held key positions on the Joint Staff, including Deputy Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Joint Contingency Operations Planner in the J-8 Directorate. He commanded at the battalion and battery levels, including 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Regiment, and C Battery, 1st Battalion (Airborne), 321st Field Artillery Regiment. Brigadier General Williams has deployed multiple times in support of major combat and contingency operations.
His operational experience includes service in Bosnia-Herzegovina during Operation JOINT FORGE; Iraq during Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN; and Afghanistan during Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. His joint assignments span U.S. Africa Command, the Joint Staff, and NATO, where he contributed to strategic planning, crisis response, and multinational coordination. Throughout his career, Williams has been recognized for exceptional leadership and service. His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Legion of Merit (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Commendation Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal for Valor, Army Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Army Achievement Medal. He is a Master Parachutist, holds the Ranger Tab, and wears the Combat Action Badge and Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge.
