Colonel Kevin Stonerook

Colonel Kevin P. Stonerook earned his bachelor’s degree in Sociology and was commissioned in 2000 after completing the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Program at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. His first assignment was Launcher Platoon Leader for C Battery, 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Fort Bliss, Texas. At Fort Bliss, he served as the Fire Control Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for C Battery and deployed to Kuwait and to Jordan in support of Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon redeployment, he served as the Fire Distribution Section Officer in Charge in Headquarters and Headquarters Battery in 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery until he departed to attend the Air Defense Captain’s Career Course at Fort Bliss, Texas. After the Career Course, COL Stonerook was stationed in Korea as the Air Defense Coordinator and Chief of Current Operations at the 2nd Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Stanley in Uijeongbu in the Republic of Korea. After departing Korea in 2005, COL Stonerook returned to Fort Bliss, Texas as the Fire Distribution Section Officer in Charge and later the Commander of C Battery, 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery. In 2006, the battalion relocated to Kadena Airbase in Okinawa, Japan early in his command. In 2008 after command, COL Stonerook served as the Air and Missile Defense Planner in US Army Pacific at Fort Shafter, Hawaii in both the Main and Operational Command Posts. From 2010 to 2011, COL Stonerook served as the Combat Advisor to the G2, Anbar Operations Center in the Iraqi Security Forces in Ramadi, Iraq while serving with the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division during Operation New Dawn. Upon redeployment, COL Stonerook attended Intermediate Level Education at the Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. From 2013 to 2015, COL Stonerook served as the Operations Officer and later, Executive Officer for 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery at Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington during the unit’s transition from Avenger-pure to Indirect Fire Protection Capability – Avenger, preparing the battalion for deployment to Afghanistan in 2015. From 2015 to 2018, COL Stonerook served as the Division Chief for Strategic Initiatives and Integration for the Headquarters, Department of the Army Fires Directorate in the G-3/5/7 at Washington, D.C. From 2018 to 2020, COL Stonerook commanded the Special Troops Battalion for US Army Forces Command and US Army Reserve Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina – the first commander of the unit selected through the centralized Army process. From 2021 to 2023, COL Stonerook served as the Chief of Missile Defense at U.S. Forces Korea in the Combined and Joint Staff at Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek in the Republic of Korea. And in June 2023has assumed command of the 35th Air Defense Artillery “Dragon” Brigade, with headquarters at Osan Airbase in Korea, relinquishing command in June 2025. COL Stonerook’s military schools include the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course, the U.S. Army Airborne School, the Air Defense Artillery Captain’s Career Course, the Joint Firepower Course, the Army Space Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, He has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree in International Relations from Webster University. His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Basic Space Badge, and Basic Parachutist Badge. COL Stonerook is married. He and his wife Jillian have five children, two actively serving in the Military, one in the Air Force and one in the Army.
