It’s been a tough few days for the Defence IQ Blogging Awards panel as they’ve read, debated, discussed and come to a conclusion on who the winners are for the 2ndannual Defence IQ Blogging Awards. The panel have clocked up an impressive number of hours of reading time and have been impressed with the quality of all of the 33 shortlisted blogs and the winners of each category have now been chosen.
So, without further ado, we are pleased to announce the winners of the Defence IQ Blogging Awards 2012 which are as follows:
Counter Terrorism:
WINNER: The Freedom Fighter Blog
What the panel said:
‘Everything a blog should be: informative, interesting, well written, thoughtful and occasionally provocative. Van Dyke declared “the 21st century is the century of freedom” – he’s fighting for it with both pen and sword.’
Defence Industry:
WINNER: RAF Airman
What the panel said:
‘It’s impossible not to like this blog. Thoughtful, intelligent, personal, frank, moving. Well written too. Like a public diary: the kind of communicating that only blogging makes possible.’
Maritime Security:
WINNER: Daly History Blog
What the panel said:
‘The Daly History Blog balances military maritime astuteness and historical reverence with a keen academic rigor. We really enjoy reading the blog here at Defence IQ and think it a worthy winner. Not to mention the fact it’s updated daily (honestly, it is, that’s not just a pun).’
Information Operations:
WINNER: Small Wars Journal
What the panel said:
‘Small Wars Journal is informed but not overly-technical, and comes across as unbiased which appeals instantly. The blog provides a range of information from the macro to the micro issues which is important to readers in the information operations community.’
Regional Defence:
WINNER: Livefist
What the panel said:
'Livefist quite simply stands out in a crowded sector of Indian focused blogs. Live Fist breaks the mould providing up to date and informative views on the Indian Defence Sector which other Indian blogs sometimes overlook.'
Cyber Security:
WINNER: CWZ
What the panel said:
‘CWZ has a genuinely impressive breadth of content, and a good editorial style which provides commentary and opinion on subjects without straying too far from the central event/news that is founding the blog.’
A huge congratulations to all of the winners of the Defence IQ Blogging Awards 2012. We will now be in contact to award you your winners bloggers badges.
Thank you to all of our shortlisted blogs for making the panel’s job particularly difficult. It’s great to see so many great defence and military bloggers out there so please keep up all of your hard work.
The panel:
There’s been a lot of talk about the Defence IQ Blogging Awards judging panel, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank our experts who put in so much time to make sure that every blog was read, re read and judged fairly. Our expert panel was formed of:
