Dr. Cara LaPointe works at the intersection of technology, policy, ethics and leadership to tackle some of our nation’s most pressing challenges. She is the co-founder and CEO of Archytas LLC, a consulting company focused on emerging technology strategy, policy, and integration. Cara has extensive experience working in national security, including over two decades as a naval officer and now as the Director of Strategic Assessment of the United States Department of the Navy. At Georgetown University, she is an Adjunct Professor of Science, Technology, and International Affairs within the School of Foreign Service. Formerly, she was a founding Co-Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Assured Autonomy, working to ensure that emerging technologies throughout society are safe, secure, ethical and trustworthy. Cara is a frequent advisor and speaker on autonomy, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, and other frontier technology initiatives including globally at the United Nations, the World Bank, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the United States’ National Academy of Medicine. She served within the White House under three administrations, most recently as a Senior Advisor, and is a former member of both the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships and the Department of the Navy’s Science and Technology Board. Cara is a patented engineer, a White House Fellow, and a French American Foundation Young Leader. She holds degrees from the United States Naval Academy, the University of Oxford, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
