Bill Biggs

System of Systems Architect, MHC programme UK MoD

Bill Biggs is a senior consultant actively supporting the UK MOD’s adoption of robotic and autonomous systems. His principal focus for the last 3 years has been as System of Systems Architect for the UK Mine Hunting Capability programme, but he also supports wider delivery work, including through his chairing of the UK Maritime Autonomous Systems Centre of Expertise. Prior to his work in Defence Equipment and Support, he was responsible for QinetiQ’s portfolio of Autonomy related services, working in a series of campaign and technical leadership positions, covering R&D, prototyping, operational experimentation and assurance. His earlier career in the Royal Navy included a range of sea going appointments as a Weapon Engineer and roles in defence acquisition and policy. Interoperability, systems integration, novel acquisition and disruptive technology were all recurring themes. An active contributor and thought leader in the application of autonomous systems in Defence, he enjoys working with customers and partners to progressively establish new concepts of operation and to address the challenges of transitioning exciting technology into deployed capability. He played a leading role in the delivery of both Unmanned Warrior, a highly successful demonstration of unmanned and autonomous systems for the Royal Navy and a similar event, Autonomous Warrior (Land), for the British Army
