[Case Study] Turkish Aerospace Industries launches ‘hot and high’ attack helicopter

The Turkish Land Forces identified a need for a new generation of attack helicopter capable of efficient performance at high altitudes in hot climates. The ATAK helicopter programme was launched to meet those needs and advance the country’s aeronautical industry. As part of the initiative, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) joined forces with AgustaWestland to develop and build 91 T129 ATAK multirole combat helicopters, 59 of them on firm order and 32 options. Each is powered by two CTS800-4A turboshaft engines supplied by the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC), a 50/50 partnership between Honeywell International and Rolls-Royce plc.
