Major General Indrek Sirel

Major General Indrek Sirel is a senior Estonian Defence Forces officer with over three decades of military experience. Born in Tallinn in 1970, he began his career in the Soviet Army after graduating from the Moscow Military Academy, before joining the Estonian Defence Forces in 1993. He has held a wide range of command and staff appointments, including company and battalion command roles, Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, and Commander of the Estonian Land Forces from 2008 to 2012. His international experience includes deployment to Afghanistan with ISAF, as well as senior positions within NATO, including Assistant Chief of Staff J7 at Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, where he led major exercises such as STEADFAST JAZZ and TRIDENT JUNCTURE. He later served as Deputy Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces and as Estonia's Military Representative to NATO and the EU. Since 2024, he has served as Commanding General of the Estonian Division.
