Lieutenant General Adam Joks was born on 5 July 1966 in Ostrzeszów, Poland. He assumed the command of the 2 Polish Corps – Land Component Command on 1st August 2023. LTG Joks entered the Mechanized Infantry Military Academy in Wroclaw in 1986 and, once graduated, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1990. Between 1990 and 1992 LTG Joks was attached to 13th Mechanized Regiment in Kożuchów as a Platoon Leader. From 1993 to 1994 he attended courses for platoon leaders and company commanders organised by the Bundeswehr, and served in 192nd Panzergrenadier Battalion in Ahlen–Westfalen. In 1994 he became Company Commander in the 9th Military Training Centre in Ostrów Wielkopolski and later the same year was promoted to Captain. In 1997 LTG Joks started studies at the Military Academy in Warsaw and after graduation in 1999 was assigned Commander of the Infantry Battalion in the 34th Armoured Brigade in Żagań and Chief of S-5 Section. He stayed there until 2002. When he moved to the G-3 Directorate of the Polish Land Forces Command to assume duties of a Specialist and later Senior Staff Officer for Central Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC). In the meantime, in 2004, LTG Joks completed postgraduate studies in Political Science and Administration at the Warsaw University and postgraduate military studies in Crisis Management at the National Defence University in Warsaw. Between 2004 and 2005 LTG Joks served at the Multinational Division Central-South in Iraq where he was a Deputy Chief G-9 Division. In 2007 LTG Joks was assigned as a Commander of the Central CIMIC Group in Kielce and promoted to Colonel. Also in 2007 he completed studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Between 2008 and 2012 he was Chief G-3 in the Land Operations Directorate of the Land Forces Command. In the meantime LTG Joks completed Strategic Studies at the US Army War College in Carlisle Barracks (2010-2011). In 2012, he took command over 6th Airborne Brigade in Cracow and in August 2013 was promoted to Brigadier General. In October 2015 LTG Joks was appointed the first Commander of the Multinational Brigade LITPOLUKRBRIG (Lithuanian-Polish-Ukrainian) in Lublin. In January 2016 he received his PhD in Security Science at the National Defence Academy in Warsaw. Later that year, he was assigned as a Chief of Airborne and Motorised Forces Directorate in General Command. Also in 2016 he accomplished the Generals, Flag Officers and Ambassadors’ Course, at the NATO Defence College in Rome. From 2017 to 2018 LTG Joks was Chief of Staff in Multinational Division North East in Elbląg, he also attended the Senior Leader Course in Baltic Defence College, Tartu, Estonia. In January 2018 LTG Joks became a Deputy Chief of Staff of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and was promoted to Major General. From 2019 to 2021 he was Commander of the Joint Force Training Centre ( JFTC ) in Bydgoszcz, Poland. In 2021 LTG Joks was assigned as a Deputy Commander of the US Army V Corps and served in Fort Knox, USA until 2023. In the meantime LTG Joks completed Combined/Joint Force Land Component Commander (C/JFLCC) Course (2021). In July 2023 the head of the Ministry of Defense Mariusz Błaszczak appointed general Adam Joks as a Commander of the 2nd Polish Corps – Land Component Command in Cracow and he was promoted to Lieutenant General in November 2023. He is married to Agata and they have two sons, Mikołaj and Maksymilian. He is a happy grandfather to Franciszek and Kazimierz.
