Colonel Peter Elston joined the Royal Military Police in 1989 and commissioned as an officer in 2005. Over a military career spanning more than three decades, he has served with 3rd, 4th and 5th Regiments Royal Military Police, as well as 101 and 102 Operational Sustainment Brigades, gaining extensive experience across operational policing, sustainment and command roles. His staff appointments have included positions in 49 (East) Brigade, the Land Warfare Centre, 7 Brigade, Force Troops Command and Army Headquarters, where he worked on training, doctrine, operational planning and strategic development. He has completed the Intermediate and Advanced Staff Courses at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, alongside senior leadership and NATO professional military education programmes. As Commanding Officer of Army Training Unit (North), Colonel Elston led the delivery of Basic Training across Northern England during the Covid-19 pandemic, overseeing significant adaptations to training delivery and force protection measures. In 2024, he assumed the role of Deputy Commander, 101 Operational Sustainment Brigade, one of the British Army's largest brigades, comprising 14 units and approximately 5,000 personnel. The brigade provides critical 2nd and 3rd line support to 3 (UK) Division, underpinning operational readiness and sustainment.
