Colonel Kris Reeves enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1996 and was commissioned into The Royal Canadian Regiment.
Over the course of his 29-year career, Colonel Reeves has served in a wide range of regimental, instructional, and staff appointments. He has commanded at each level from platoon to brigade and has held key staff roles in both operational and institutional settings, including service as the Army G3 and as Senior Military Advisor to the Deputy Minister of National Defence. His operational experience includes domestic support along with two Battle Group rotations to Afghanistan (2008–2009) and deployment as the Commander of Joint Task Force – Ukraine under Operation UNIFIER.
In his early years of service, Colonel Reeves completed several advanced qualifications, including the United States Army Ranger Course, Advanced Reconnaissance, Patrol Pathfinder, Military Freefall Parachutist, and the Army Operations Course. He is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Programme and the National Security Programme at the Canadian Forces College. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Defence Studies. His personal decorations include the Commander Canadian Expeditionary Force Command Commendation and the Medal of Military Merit. He has also been recognized internationally with the Medal of Merit from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Badge of Honour from the Ukrainian Minister of Defence
