Former Head of Equipment for British Army Brigadier General Nick Cowey commissioned into the British Army in 1997. A tank (armour) officer by background, Nick has commanded from Troop to Battlegroup, served on tanks and many other armoured vehicles, deployed on operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Cyprus, and been recognised for Meritorious Service by Governments of both UK and USA. Following a successful operational career, he was promoted to Colonel (later Brigadier General) working in the Ministry of Defence and Army Headquarters, mainly focussed on capability and equipment. He has amassed experience in requirement setting, navigating government approvals and bringing new equipment into service. He led the early work to select the Boxer as the UK APC and the Challenger 3 MBT programme when it was approved and got underway. As Head of Army Equipment, he was responsible for all the in-service fleets, their £500m per annum support budget, and the new equipment coming into service. Since retiring from Regular Service in 2023, Nick has been leading a consultancy supporting defence clients with business winning strategies and campaigns.
