Air Vice Marshal Andrew Martin is currently serving as Director of the newly established IAMD Directorate within the UK’s Military Strategic Headquarters following a tour as RAF’s Deputy Director of Air Capability & Programmes. Martin completed his advanced Staff Training at the Canadian Forces’ College, Toronto where he gained a Masters’ Degree in Defence Studies, and is a Distinguished Graduate of the US National War College where he gained a Master of Science Degree in National Security Strategy. In addition to qualifying as an Air Defence Weapons Instructor and an Electronic Warfare Instructor, Air Vice Marshal Martin has served as a Staff Instructor on the RAF’s Air Defence Weapons Instructor Course, as a Plans Desk Officer in the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters, as Deputy Commander of the RAF Air Defence Operational Test Squadron, and as the RAF’s Deputy ISR Force Commander. Martin’s operational experience includes fast-jet tours over the Former Yugoslavia and in the South Atlantic, operations over Afghanistan as Commander of the RAF’s Airborne Early Warning and Control Squadron, as Chief of Combat Operations in the US CENTCOM Combined Air Operations Centre in Al Udeid, as Commander of the UK Expeditionary Air Wing at Kandahar Air Base, and most recently as Deputy Commander of the NATO Airborne Early Warning and Control Force. Air Vice Marshal Martin is also the UK national lead within the Joint UK/US/Australian IAMD collaboration effort and Chair of the NATO Enhanced Air C2 Programme Steering Board.
