Deputy Cyber Commander Polish Cyber Command

BG Ph.D. Eng. Mariusz Chmielewski has been appointed as Deputy Commander at Cyber Command in September 2020. Previously, he was engaged as a researcher and lecturer at Cybernetics Department Military University of Technology, where he finished as Deputy Dean responsible for the development of education and research directions in the field of cyber security and information technology. Date of appointment to the rank of Brigadier General – August 14, 2023. At the moment BG Chmielewski is responsible for managing the development, deployment and maintenance processes of classified and unclassified systems for Polish Armed Forces and Polish MOD, including IT infrastructure, elementary services, software components, applications, and systems serving as key tools supporting workflow, document management, and ERP. A large portion of his responsibilities are associated with large-scale integration including multi-layered mobile, deployed and stationary ITC systems delivering warfighting capabilities in network-centric environment, supplemented with cybersecurity requirements. Author and supervisor of 15 software engineering modules associated with mobile, web development and knowledge engineering provided for bachelor's and master's degrees in IT, cybersecurity and cryptology programs. In 2003, he received Presidential Best Alumni Award and began a scientific career in the field of computer science, specializing in command support, computer simulation, and application of artificial intelligence methods. In 2012, he successfully defended with distinction his doctoral thesis on the application of artificial intelligence methods and semantics analysis in the identification of emergency situations. He is the recipient of many prestigious awards awarded for scientific and inventive achievements internationally in the fields of biomedicine and command support. He is the author of many high-scoring scientific publications and books in the field of cybersecurity, software engineering, and decision support.
