Lieutenant Colonel Dominik Nessler

Chief of Staff, Artillery School German Army

LTC Dominik Nessler joined the German Artillery school in his appointment as Chief of Staff in Mai 2023. His responsibilities cover leading and coordinating the complete staff work and advising the General of Artillery in leadership, educational and training issues. Prior to this appointment, he was working in the HQ 1 (DEU) ArmdDiv as a G5 Plans senior officer and as a deputy branch chief of the Joint Fire Support Coordination Group. From 2017 to 2019 he was working in the Artillery and Joint Fire Support Branch of the German Army Concepts and Capabilities Development Centre. His responsibilities covered managing all operational suitability tests from future artillery and Joint Fire Support equipment and systems. Furthermore, he was the authorized representative for the Future Indirect Fire Systems (tube and rocket artillery). From 2015 to 2017 he was working as a chief instructor at the German Artillery school for the officer leader course and was responsible for the training of future platoon commanders. He joined the German Armed Forces in 2000 as a conscript and became a junior non-commissioned officer in 2002. In 2003 he realized a change of career and became an officer candidate in the artillery branch. After completing all officer courses and graduating as a Master of Education in 2010 he had several command assignments on platoon and battery echelon. Through his military career as an artillery senior officer and targeteer he has so far completed a lot of multinational activities with NATO allies. He was born in Datteln, Germany in 1980 and is happily living with his wife, 2 children and their family dog near Dülmen.
