Major Christopher Weis joined the Bundeswehr in 2007 as an officer candidate. After completing his training as a leader of an infantry platoon, Major Weis underwent specialized training as a forward observer and leader of a Joint Fire Support Team, responsible for coordinating ground- and sea-based indirect fire support for the fighting infantry. During the course of his assignment to an infantry battalion, Major Weis was continuously trained and assigned first as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller and then as a fire support officer at the battalion level. Additionally, he qualified as a fire control officer and leader of an infantry mortar platoon before being assigned as a company commander of a heavy weapons company. In charge of the conceptual development of the light infantry at the Army Concepts and Capabilities Development Centre since 2021, Major Weis is the lead officer responsible for modernizing the mortar systems of mountain, airborne and light infantry.
