Angus McAfee was commissioned into the Royal Tank Regiment in 1990. Between 1990 and 2004 he completed most of the junior officer appointments at Regimental Duty including Adjutant and spent 2 years at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a instructor before attending the Joint Services Advanced Command and Staff Course. He returned to the Royal Tank Regiment as a Squadron Leader in 2004, during which time he commanded an Opposing Force (OPFOR) Tank Company as part of the British Army Training Unit Suffield in Canada, and deployed to Kosovo in command of the British Surveillance Company, providing a discrete surveillance and reconnaissance capability. Further staff appointments followed in the Land Warfare Centre and Army Headquarters before commanding the Army Training Regiment at Bassingbourn. Since 2013 he has held various strategy, operational planning and people focused staff appointments including an International Fellow at the United States Army War College in Pennsylvania, Director Campaign Planning in the Australian Joint Operations Command in Canberra, and most recently Assistant Chief of Staff (Personnel) in Headquarters Regional Command. He has completed operational deployments in Northern Ireland, the Balkans and Afghanistan. He assumed the role of Head of Accommodation Strategy and Planning in the Defence Infrastructure Organisation in December 2024. He is Graduate of the City and Guilds Institute and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute. He holds a Masters in Military Studies from Cranfield University and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.
