Rachael started her scientific career with a degree in Planetary Sciences and a PhD in Materials Chemistry. Focussing on the effects of high pressure and high temperature effects on various systems including materials and biological organisms. Rachael is currently a Reader in Applied Materials at Cranfield Defence and Security where her research to-date has been investigating the effects of explosive and ballistic threats to people, vehicles and structures, with a focus on sustainable engineering. She often consults with both military and security personnel on the effects of pressure on structures and materials and lectures extensively on several M-Level courses on topics focused on material response. Rachael was shortlisted for the Women In Defence Awards 2022 in the Research and Innovation category and she was also selected as a Finalist, Top 50 Women in Engineering 2023: Safety and Security.
