Major General Anders Olesen

Major General Anders Berg Olesen was born on 18 August 1972.

He joined the Royal Danish Army in 1991 and was commissioned from the Royal Danish Military Academy in 1996. After commissioning, he served as Platoon Commander at Jutland Dragoon Regiment and subsequently as Platoon Commander and Deputy Commander of 2nd Tank Squadron at Jutland Dragoon Regiment. He later commanded the 2nd Tank Squadron and served as S3/S5 and Deputy Commander of the 1st Armoured Battalion, Jutland Dragoon Regiment.

Following regimental service, he held a series of staff and command appointments including Staff Officer at the Army Combat Training School, Deputy Director of Studies and Development at Army Operational Command Denmark, and Military Assistant to both the Danish Chief of the Army and the Deputy Chief of Defence. From 2014 to 2016 he commanded the 2nd Armoured Infantry Battalion, Jutland Dragoon Regiment, and subsequently led the Army's Soldier 2025 development project and the Studies and Development Department at the Army Staff.

He has served in several senior positions at Defence Command Denmark, including Chief of the Executive Office and, from 2022, Commander of 1 Danish Brigade providing him with extensive operational experiences. In 2025 he was appointed Chief Policy and Capability Division at Defence Command Denmark.

His international experience includes service as Deputy Commander of C-Squadron in Bosnia under SFOR, as Squadron Commander of the Reconnaissance Squadron in Iraq, and as Danish Liaison Officer to United States Central Command and United States Special Operations Command in Tampa, Florida. He assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Staff (Support) at NATO's Joint Force Command Norfolk in December 2025.

Major General Olesen is a graduate of the Higher Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom, Army General Staff Course and Joint Senior Staff Course of the Danish Defence Academy and the Paris International Capstone Course. He is married to Jane Overgaard Nielsen, and they have two adult children.
