Jonathon Brame

Dr. Brame is a Technical Director at the US Army Engineer Development Center (ERDC) Cold Regions Research & Engineering Laboratory (CRREL) in Hanover, NH focused on Integrative Cold Science and Engineering. In this role, Dr. Brame provides strategic vision to the Lab, guides and develops military-relevant programs, and supports the research staff in achieving technical excellence in mastering the science of the cryosphere to overcome the adverse effects of cold, ice, and snow. Competencies include arctic infrastructure and logistics support, advanced sensing for extreme environments, material science for cold weather dominance, and engineering support to military capabilities to ensure dominance in extreme cold and complex conditions.

Prior to his present role, Dr. Brame was the Team Lead for Basic & Applied Research (BAR) for the US Army Futures Command Atlantic office, coordinating international fundamental research and discovery between universities and Army Labs & Centers, with a mission to identify promising, unique science and technology innovations and connect researchers from around the world with US Army subject matter experts. Previously, Dr. Brame spent two years with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASAALT), working in Research and Technology. Dr. Brame worked across the entire Army S&T portfolio, including serving as the Deputy Portfolio Director for Network/C3I.

He also served as the Army representative to the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program Advisory Panel. During his time as a research scientist at ERDC, Dr. Brame was the team lead for Materials Science, coordinating an interdisciplinary team studying applications and environmental health and safety implications of advanced materials and nanomaterials for the Army. Dr. Brame's degrees are in Physics (BS from Brigham Young University) and Civil & Environmental Engineering (PhD from Rice University), and he has more than 25 peer-reviewed publications and has presented at dozens of research conferences and scientific meetings.
