Part I - Military Airlift Briefing Paper

Add bookmark

Military airlift as a concept and a tactical tool for military commanders has been around for as long as aircraft have been used to transport personnel, equipment and supplies between ground destinations. As a strategic concept, however, it reached its first stage of maturity during the so-called Berlin Airlift of June 1948 to May 1949, which proved the utility of military airlift in the prosecution of national (and international) foreign policy objectives. At this point, military airlift transformed from a tactical to a strategic concept – a position it has maintained for the last 60 years or more.
