The new US Navy is the smallest it has ever been since before World War I. US Navy planners are making aggressive changes in the dynamic materiel makeup of this new fleet - and this rests firmly on the latest models of smaller amphibious vessels. These include the LPD-17 San Antonio class and LHD-8, among others. These developments also help the US Navy supply customised OPVs to client navies. Art Divens is the Executive Director of the Amphibious Warfare and Sealift Office within the Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships, US Navy.
