After joining the Estonian Military Academy as an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) and unmanned aerial vehicle operator, Markus Otsus took over the project “Unmanned Systems on the Battleground”, the first to study and develop the field of UGV’s within the Estonian Defence Forces. Since then he has continued work in the field within the Estonian Defence Forces and participated in EDIDP, PESCO and EDA projects, carrying out various field and standardisation tests as well as ethical and social studies.
In addition to his work relating to UGV’s, his work at the Estonian Military Academy’s Department of Applied Research includes coordinating a wide variety of research and development projects both within the Estonian Defence Forces and between the defence industry and the Estonian Defence Forces.
Alongside his work at the Estonian Military Academy he is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Tartu, studying the effects of controlled defects in nanolaminates. He holds a master’s degree in Materials Science.
