Arbo Probal is the Program Manager for Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) at the Estonian Defence Forces Headquarters. In this role, he is responsible for shaping Estonia’s UAS capability into a modern, future-oriented, and NATO-interoperable system that supports both national defence and multinational operations. He served for 30 years in the Estonian Defence Forces, beginning his career as a squad leader and rising through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel. His extensive experience spans leadership in artillery units, staff roles at various levels of command, and key assignments at NATO training centres. He has been involved in operational planning, capability development, and multinational cooperation, including deployments to conflict zones such as Afghanistan. Notable positions include Commanding Officer of the 1st Infantry Brigade’s Artillery Battalion and District Commander, where he oversaw regional defence preparedness and civil-military coordination. Following his retirement from active service, Lt Col (Ret) Probal continues to play an active role in advancing defence innovation and international collaboration. He works at the intersection of military, industry, and academia to accelerate the integration of new technologies, strengthen operational capabilities, and support the evolution of Estonia’s defence ecosystem into one that is adaptive and resilient.
