2012 – INAUGURAL CONFERENCE IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL
The Warships & OPV Latin America Conference’s roots go back to 2012. Established to create direct partnership and trading opportunities for the naval defence industry within Latin America, the event attracted over 250 attendees. The conference delved into the peculiarities of working with Brazilian industry and was keynoted by Rear Admiral Alipio Rodrigues da Silva, Director of Communications & Information and Rear Admiral Petronio Siqueira de Aguiar , Fleet Renewal Programme Coordinator, Brazilian Navy.
2013 – THE CONFERENCE RETURNS TO BRAZIL
Building on the success of the 2012 edition of the conference, the event was hosted by Brazil in its following year to support regional shipbuilding programmes. Keynoted by regional leaders, Admiral Luis Arias, Commander of the Ecuadorian Navy and Admiral Edmundo González, Commander of the Chilean Navy, the conference had a number of sidebar meetings and bi-lateral negotiations, leading to a real atmosphere of collaboration and cooperation towards achieving common security goals.
2014 – OPV LATIN AMERICA/SAMSEC HOSTED BY COLOMBIA
Officially support by the Colombian Navy and COTEC MAR, the event took place in Cartagena, Colombia. For the first time, it was co-located with the South American Security Summit (SAMSEC) and brought together senior strategists and operational experts to strengthen enduring partnerships to combat criminal activities. Attendees had the opportunity to visit COTECMAR facilities and gain insights on working with Colombian naval industry.
2015 – ECUADOR WELCOMES OPV LATAM
Hosted by Ecuador, the conference welcomed the perspectives of Vice Admiral Luis Santiago Chávez, Commander, Ecuadorian Navy, Admiral Luis Gerardo Alcalá Ferráez, Chief of the General Staff, Mexican Navy. Attendees visited ASTINAVE facilities to learn about indigenous Ecuadorian shipbuilding projects.
2016 – PERUVIAN NAVY HOSTS OPV LATAM
The conference was hosted by the Peruvian Navy to support the vast modernisation programme. With insights from the Commander of the navy, Admiral Edmundo Deville, the event was truly impactful and bespoke. The Maritime Interdiction Operation, conducted for the conference provided an excellent opportunity to see CONOPS and TTPs and the tour to SIMA-PERÚ S.A. – allowed for excellent networking with local industry.
2017- THE CONFERENCE IS HOSTED BY CHILE
Held to support Chilean requirements for two additional OPVs and C2 enhancements, the conference had informative and interactive day of activities – looking at the surface fleet assets and operations of the Chilean Navy. Delegates were invited to visit on-board a frigate and one of the newest OPVs in the Chilean Navy and take part in a MIO demonstration followed by lunch at the Club Naval.
2018 – THE EVENT RETURNS TO BRAZIL
Hosted by the Brazilian Navy, the event focused on the Construction of Naval Power acquisition strategy and Brazil’s Tamadare-class corvette requirement –keynoted by Vice Admiral Jose Augusto Viera da Cunha Menezes, Commander of the First Naval District,. Site visits to the Amazonas-class OPVs will allow attendees to gain a comprehensive understanding of assets and capabilities of the Brazilian Navy
