Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has played a pivotal role in the modernization of ROK Navy by designing and building a variety of modern, sophisticated naval and auxiliary vessels since 1975 when Korean Government entrusted HHI as the designer and builder of the first indigenous Korean frigate named 'Ulsan.' For the past 40 years, HHI Naval & Special Shipbuilding Business Unit designed most of key ROKN warships including Aegis Destroyers, Frigates and Submarines. HHI is also contracted to build Royal New Zealand Navy's new Fleet Support Vessel, HMNZS Aotearoa, as well as Philippine Navy's Multi-Purpose Frigates, BRP Jose Rizal and Antonio Luna. HHI can design any size of combatant of any speed scaled from proven hull to meet exact requirement of customer's navies.
