Commanding Officer 7 Regiment Army Air Corps

Prior to joining the Army Lt Col Pittaway graduated from Southampton University with a BSc in Politics and International Relations. He commissioned into Army Air Corps from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in August 2000 and was awarded his Wings in October 2002. He was posted into 662 Sqn, 3 Regiment AAC, at Wattisham Flying Station having converted on to the Gazelle. Very soon into his posting he was selected to be the Flt Comd within the Sqn and was fortunate to deploy to many locations including BATUS and NI on Op BANNER In 2005 he converted to the Apache and was deployed on Operation HERRICK twice in 2007 as the Weapons Officer and the Flight Commander. After his deployment he attended the QHI Cse at RAF Shawbury and was subsequently posted to 670 Sqn teaching on the Operational Training Phase at MW on Squirrel HT1/2. He rapidly achieved his A2 upgrade within 16 months and was then soon posted to 673 Sqn as the Sqn 2IC teaching on Apache CTT. He then attended the Intermediate Command and Staff Course at Shrivenham and was posted to the Wildcat Fielding Team as the SO2 Flying Training Instructor and the Officer Commanding Wildcat Fielding. His time at RNAS Yeovilton culminated as OC 652 Sqn (OCU). He was subsequently awarded an MBE in the 2015 New Honours for his time in Command. He moved from RNAS Yeovilton to Middle Wallop and was selected as the Wildcat Standards Officer within Army Aviation Standards. He spent a further 3 years within AAvn Stds as the the Senior Flying Standards Officer and completed the tour as Acting SO1 AAvn Stds. In 2018 he was posted to Wattisham Flying Station where he was appointed Senior Flying Instructor and led the from an instructional perspective the first UK Apache deployment into the Arctic. He was the Attack Helicopter Display Team pilot in 2019. From this role he promoted to Lt Col and assumed the appointment of Deputy Commander and Senior Operator Apache for the Attack Helicopter Force and was subsequently appointed SO1 Senior Operator Apache and Aerodrome Operator Wattisham Flying Station on the creation of the 1st Avn BCT. In Jul 2023 he was appointed CO 7 (Trg) Regt AAC.
