Defence IQ: What specific challenges does the Baltic Sea pose for naval forces generally and their ISR assets in particular? 

Captain Palmquist: The Baltic Sea is extremely shallow and confined. 20 years ago, we stated that it was very hard to hide in it because you could be simultaneously detected or engaged by weapon systems from land, air, surface and subsurface. The same thing is true today and will be in the future, but it will be harder to hide in air and on the surface.
