Arroyo is director of the Ditchley Foundation, see www.ditchley.com. Standing at the crossroads of government,
technology, and finance, Ditchley connects people from around the world in
order to design a sustainable future for democracy, global markets and the
Transatlantic alliance, as technology advances and China rises. Ditchley discussions include leaders from
government, technology and business, combined with emerging talent across
different silos of expertise.
Until summer 2016, James was director for data at the British Foreign and
Commonwealth Office, charged with adapting the organisation to the digital age. He drove a programme to release the power of
data whilst mindful of extreme cyber security threats. In addition to leading Ditchley he advises
major companies on digital and data innovation and cyber security as a partner
in the Wychwood partnership, www.wychwood.io. He is a member of the advisory board of the
security theme investment fund of private bank Pictet; and he advises
technology start ups in the fields of cyber security and data analysis using AI.
James
read English at Jesus College, Cambridge University. His interests include the
impact of technology on society, business and government and the dynamics of
insurgencies and terrorism. His book on technology and power, the Digital Prince, a rewriting of
Machiavelli for the digital age, co-authored with Kissinger Associates’ CEO
Jami Miscik, will be published in 2019.
