Defence IQ: What role do you see AI and machine learning play in enhancing cyber security in the Armed Forces?
Brigadier General Buckner: I don’t know that we have fundamentally realised just how much these emerging technologies will change the way we fight and the nature of conflict; this is why I approach it more broadly than just the cybersecurity aspect. I certainly think we are already seeing ways that these can help inform our network defenders and architects, coupled with operating and maintaining our networks.
The idea of autonomous vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, ISR, and getting at the ubiquitous nature of data collection and making that into something meaningful is extraordinarily important. We are also looking at ways that AI and machine learning can really improve…
