Brigadier General (Rtd) Piotr Żurawski

Principal Military Advisor to General Commander Polish Armed Forces

BG Piotr Żurawski was born in 1963. He graduated from the Military Academy of Armoured Forces (Bachelor of Science degree) in Poznań in 1988 and was commissioned to the rank of Second Lieutenant. After graduation he served on various command and staff positions in 41st Mechanised Regiment in Szczecin and 7th Costal Defence Brigade in Gdańsk (Lieutenant – 1991). In the years 1995-1997 he completed the National Defence College (Master of Science degree) in Warsaw and afterwards he was assigned Senior Officer position in the planning branch of a newly established Land Forces Command (Captain – 1995). In 1998 BG Żurawski completed NATO Orientation Course and the same year he was selected for postgraduate study in US Marine Corps University (Command & Control Systems), Quantico, Virginia (USA). After graduation, in 1999 he returned to the Land Forces Command and worked as a Senior Specialist in Peace Operations and Allied Cooperation Division. In the year 2000 he was appointed Chief of Section in Peace Ops and Allied Cooperation Branch / G-3 Division, LF Command/ and promoted to the rank of Major. Meanwhile, he completed 2. Phase of US Armed Forces professional education – NDU Joint Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Virginia (USA) and participated in Civil-Military Cooperation Course, NORDCAP School in Alborg, Denmark. At the beginning of “Operation Enduring Freedom” he was sent to US Central Command, Tampa (Florida, USA) where he was responsible for the coordination of deployment of the first Polish military contingent to Afghanistan (2002). He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2003 and assigned to the Polish National Military Representative Office at Allied Command Operations SHAPE-NATO, Mons, Belgium as Senior Specialist. Three years later, he was appointed Chief of International Cooperation Branch /G-3 Division, LF Command/ and promoted to the rank of Colonel. At the beginning of 2009 BG Żurawski assumed the position of the Deputy Commander 21st Podhale - Mountain Riflemen Brigade in Rzeszów, where he was responsible for the pre-deployment training and preparation of the VI rotation of Polish Military Contingent for ISAF operation in Afghanistan. From October 2009 until May 2010 he was a Commander of FOB GHAZNI and Deputy Commanding Officer of the “White Eagle” Polish Task Force in Afghanistan. From June 2010 till June 2011 BG Żurawski studied as an International Fellow at the US National Defence University, Washington DC where he received Master of Science degree in the National Resource Strategy. After that he assumed position of Chief Land Forces Development Division G-5, LF Command. Then he was a Commanding Officer of 20th Mechanized Brigade from 3 June 2013 until 18 May 2015. Afterwards BG Żurawski was Deputy Chief of Staff for Planning (DCOS PLANS) in HQ Multinational Corps North-East (HQ MNC NE) from May 2015 till May 2018.
