Both education and workforce development are needed to ensure there are sufficient trained personnel, especially for more complicated processes. Manufacturers can be reluctant to train up a highly qualified workforce who may leave. There is also a lot of opportunity for close loop technology. While DED can require PhD specialists, other processes may lend themselves to automation. Industry needs to decide if they go the route of machine automation or expert human operators – or the balance required.

Discussion will include:

·        Sharing an understanding of the workforce required

·        Close Loop control, the role real time monitoring and the challenge of AI certification

·        Commercial and safety implications over how much control can be given to automation

·        Challenges involved in the certification of training courses

·        Personnel certification, external training providers, and internal training
