Lieutenant General Antonio Gucciardino is General Manager of the Procurement Agency for Land Systems within the Italian Army. From his perspective, armoured capabilities upgrades are all about adapting to the pace of rapid change. In this respect, Iraq, Lebanon and Afghanistan have provided the proving grounds for defining future needs. Supportability, lethality of firepower and high survivability are the paramount focal points of Italian armoured vehicles - both heavy and light infantry. Upgraded communications and digital networking gear and the latest night vision modifications are also ultimately vital to the latest iterations of Italian armour, to include the up-armoured VBM Freccia.
