Before retiring in September, the Chairman of the United States' Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, recommended $450 billion in cuts to the US defense budget over the next ten years. That's $45 billion a year out of the US' current $750 billion annual defense spending. But if the process now underway in the US Congress to find trillions in further cuts through the work of an ad hoc bipartisan "super committee" fails to reach an agreement, the automatic provisions of the budget deal...
