The helicopter market in 2013 has been marked with notable ups and downs, often sounding like terminations in the West or requested orders in transitioning economies. The end of last year has even finished on a distressing note for the American helicopter industry, the biggest in the world. Pentagon’s potential intent of replacing the US Army OH-58 Kiowa Warrior fleets with the National Guard’s AH-64 Apache instead of adopting the upcoming S-97 Rider has added supplementary worries after the Armed Aerial Scout Program being put on hold for more than 6 months and the lack of visibility on further funding from 2017 onward for the Joint Multi-Role (JMR) Program. Similar approaches could be soon adopted across Western European countries. Therefore the dialogue between the industry and customers tends to become increasingly challenging and blurs potential opportunities for OEMs on the short and medium term.
