Gripen out of Danish Air Force's $5.5 billion jet competition, F-35 favourite

Saab has withdrawn from the Danish Air Force’s competition to replace its F-16 combat jet. The Gripen is no longer in the running after Saab failed to submit a bid for the contract, which will supply 24 to 30 next generation jets to Denmark. Airbus, Boeing and Lockheed Martin have submitted proposals for their Eurofighter Typhoon, F/A-18E/F and F-35 jets respectively. A decision is due next year on the $5.5 billion programme.
