The Maritime Drone: Offshore Patrol Vessels Launch UAVs Into the Fray

As the development of offshore patrol vessels moves forward, mission specialties continue to evolve. Onboard capabilities like UAS docking and deployment are now very real aspects of maritime surveillance. UAS technology provides real time updates and can perform at altitudes well beyond traditional helicopter envelopes. Meanwhile, mission and maintenance costs are comparatively small, allowing smaller and mid-size navies and coast guards increased effectiveness in the maritime domain. Pablo González Sánchez-Cantalejo is the director of maritime UAV AVTOL technologies at Indra and speaks here about maritime UAVs of the future.
