Without a formal national coast guard, Somalia is still vulnerable to piracy in the Horn of Africa despite incidents vastly decreasing over recent months. According to a report in Defense News, the European Union may help Somalia establish its own national coast guard to replace the irregular maritime police forces currently patrolling the region.
