1,500 kg drugs seizure underlines growing smuggling problem in Caribbean Basin

The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard seized 51 bales of cocaine this week following the pursuit of a "go-fast" boat off the South coast of St. Maarten, according to local reports. After being supported by the Coast Guard's Dash 8 reconnaissance aircraft, the Royal Netherlands Navy patrol vessel Friesland intercepted the vessel before the three smugglers were arrested with 1,500 kilos of cocaine on board.
