Colonel Chuck Mathê joined the Canadian Forces in June 1977. He was posted to 4 Service Battalion Lahr, Germany in 1988 where he served in Supply and Transport Company as a Transport (Heavy) Platoon Commander, the Company Administration Officer, and the Company Second-in-Command.
