Slovakia’s Defence Minister Martin Glvac told local news agency TASR that the government is planning to put out an "international contest" to industry for the acquisition of new fighters for the air force. Rather than buy, Slovakia said it would likely lease the aircraft instead, with Saab’s Gripen the early front-runner.
