Russo-Indian Airlifter Agreement Approaches

Russia and India will sign a formal agreement to develop a new tactical jet airlifter in September 2009. Known by its Indian programme title MTA (Multirole Transport Aircraft), the project has existed as a potential joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Ilyushin for several years. Russia has now allocated funding for its 50 percent share in the programme.
